Creating the optimal integrated building systems for SAHMRI
The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) set out to build a new research facility that would foster creativity, productivity, and innovation, while achieving operational, environmental, and regulatory compliance goals.
SAHMRI’s goal: To build a highly intelligent, responsive facility that maximizes operational efficiencies, energy conservation, and security while reducing risk, meeting regulatory compliance, and achieving green building certification. SAHMRI planned to:
- Create a safe and secure environment with efficient operating systems
- Maximize technology to deliver the right information to the right person or place through a consistent, integrated interface
- Build a sustainable facility that provides integrated data to manage operations, continuity of service, and energy efficiency
- Use flexible and scalable systems that can adapt to future changes while protecting the initial investment
Solution: SAHMRI worked with Schneider Electric Life Sciences experts during the design phase to create an integrated building system based on EcoStruxure architecture.
With this system, all building services communicate and reside on a single platform for users to access, which improves building efficiencies and helps extend the life of the building. Elements include HVAC and lighting control, security, and emergency power supply.
Results: Due to careful strategic planning and a collaborative design process, the project began to demonstrate environmental, financial, and intellectual capital benefits at early stages. Projections show energy savings of up to 18%, potable water savings of up to 40%, and indoor air quality that exceeds standards by 50%.
