Ruiping Power Plant partners with Schneider Electric to optimize for a low-energy future.
The Ruiping Power Plant is a China-based electricity supplier producing 1.5 billion kW of steam-generated energy each year. Ruiping needed a plan to help meet China’s demanding national targets for saving energy and reducing emissions.
To fulfill that requirement, Ruiping needed to see, measure, and manage energy use across the power plant. Schneider Electric’s holistic approach – using resources more efficiently in order to increase profits and lower environmental impact – appealed to the Ruiping team. As a result, Schneider Electric became the partner of choice for the plant’s process and energy management.A layered process
Energy efficiency experts from Schneider Electric established an energy savings program for the power plant by taking these steps to define the underlying efficiency challenges and apply solutions:
- Perform an energy audit and analyze power consumption
- Identify and target inefficiencies in energy management
- Apply EcoStruxure™ architecture, providing real-time results, monitoring carbon emissions, and improving energy efficiency
- Identify new energy savings opportunities
“We decided to focus on three major energy inefficiencies discovered in the audit,” explains Li Zhigang, General Manager, Ruiping Power Plant. “Our overall plant electricity consumption rate was too high, there was a significant air leakage rate from our turbine, and we needed to significantly lower the air temperature.”Financial savings exceed expectations
The process and energy management upgrade generates an annual savings of 27 million kW per year of direct electricity, ($1.3 million in electrical savings). It also saves around 7,735 tons of standard coal, valued at $866,575, and equals a carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reduction of over 20,265 tons.
The overall monetary benefit for the Ruiping Power Plant is $2.17 million per year.
