      • Our commitments to sustainability On the road to carbon neutrality

On the eve of COP21, Schneider Electric presented 10 commitments for sustainability. Five of them are taken from the Planet & Society barometer 2015-2017.

The objective is to reduce the Group’s emissions on the three scopes, and develop new technologies for energy efficiency so that Schneider Electric and its ecosystem demonstrate carbon neutrality by 2030.

Building an increasingly green supply chain

We work toward energy efficiency, water efficiency, and the reduction of any environmentally harmful side effects of transportation and manufacturing.
Two years ago, the Paris Climate Agreement gave us all a clear understanding of what is at stake in terms of our environmental footprint. Limiting global temperature rise this century to less than two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels is essential if we are to avoid widespread, disastrous ecological problems.

In 2017, Schneider has joined RE100 and EP100 — two global, collaborative initiatives of influential businesses led by The Climate Group and committed to climate action.

RE100: to use 100% renewable electricity by 2030 with an intermediary objective of 80% by 2020. This will be accomplished by increasing on-site renewable energy projects at more than 1,000 of our electricity-consuming sites around the globe, including 200 factories.

EP100: to double energy productivity by 2030, against a 2005 baseline, setting an ambitious target to doubling the economic output from every unit of energy consumed

      Considering waste as worth

We drive an ”obsession toward zero waste” across all our facilities globally. Waste minimization, reuse, recycling, and landfill avoidance have become an integral part of our plants’ and distribution centers’ performance scorecards, and we see constant progress. We are working toward zero waste at our 1,150 facilities worldwide. This year, we are proud to have had 130 plants receive the “Toward Zero Waste to Landfill” designation.

Schneider Electric has rolled out ISO 14001 certification to all its manufacturing and logistics sites comprised of more than 50 employees and to large tertiary sites. All these sites contribute to environmental reporting and therefore to the Group’s environmental targets. The ISO 14001 certification helps implement continuous improvement actions and processes to reduce the main environmental impacts of sites, on energy, waste, VOC, water, etc.

      In 2017, 263 sites were certified ISO 14 001.
