Why do we say you can have longer motor leads using non-shielded cable than shielded cable from a drive?

Published date: 26 July 2019

Issue:
Is shielded or non-shielded cable recommended for longer motor leads?

Product Line:
Altivar drives

Environment:
All

Cause:
N/A

Resolution:
A shielded cable will have more stray capacitance to ground as compared to a non-shielded cable.
So the longer the shielded cable the more leakage current that can occur to ground.
This leakage current can cause nuisance ground detection faults.
