What were the results of the M340 Series PLC RADIO FREQUENCY IMMUNITY TEST?

Issue:
What were the results of the M340 Series PLC RADIO FREQUENCY IMMUNITY TEST?

Product Line:
Modicon M340, BMXP34

Environment:

Cause:

Resolution:

The results are based on λ/4 or  λ/8 antenna and the worst case calculated (when the field is reflected and the PLC catches the incoming field + the reflected field.)

Antenna  λ/8 @ 1 meter
1. VHF radio transmitter – nominal 47 MHz to 48 MHz – rated 15 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 7,7
2. VHF radio transmitter – nominal 158 MHz to 173 MHz – rated 10 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 6,3
3. UHF radio transmitter – nominal 450 MHz to 470 MHz – rated 5 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 4,5
4. UHF radio transmitter – nominal 832 MHz to 848 MHz – rated 0.6 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 1,5

Antenna  λ/4 1 meter
1. VHF radio transmitter – nominal 47 MHz to 48 MHz – rated 15 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 25,6
2. VHF radio transmitter – nominal 158 MHz to 173 MHz – rated 10 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 20,9
3. UHF radio transmitter – nominal 450 MHz to 470 MHz – rated 5 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 14,8
4. UHF radio transmitter – nominal 832 MHz to 848 MHz – rated 0.6 W minimum RF output to antenna. worse case field 2*E0 = 5,1

- We do radiated immunity tests according to IEC61000-4-3 in a semi-anechoic chamber and the field is measured in V/m.
- For industrial products, we shall comply to 10V/m in the range 30MHz to 2GHz; 3V/m in the range 2GHz to 6GHz
- During the test, the product shall continue to work without any issue when the field is applied without any condition of duration with the antenna positioned vertically, then horizontally, in front of the products, and two sides and back.
- When we do our tests on the M340 range, we make a sweep @15V/m from 80MHz to 3GHz.

In conclusion, there is a risk if the power of the walkie-talkie is over 5W and distance below 1 meter.
