Video: ION Enterprise/SPM/PME - How to Remove/Unregister a custom ION Virtual Processor Service (VIP)

Issue
Some systems with extensive computer based programming to aggregate separate meter data will require multiple VIP nodes for proper operation.
This document outlines how to delete these additional VIP nodes.

Product Line
ION Enterprise 4.x, 5.x, 6.x
Struxureware Power Monitoring 7.0.1
Power Monitoring Expert 7.x, 8.x

Environment
All ION Enterprise and Struxureware Power Monitoring Expert systems.

Cause
For proper performance each VIP should contain both a .cfg and .bak file.  These files should max at approximately 2 Mb.  Once this file size is reached, for the integrity of the system, it is recommended to create a new VIP for further PC based programming.

Now, the new VIP created is no longer required.

Resolution
Unregister a Virtual Processor Service (VIP) using the following steps:

1.)  Start a command prompt window as an "Administrator" by right-clicking on the application and selecting "Run as Administrator".
2.)  Navigate to ...\Power Monitoring Expert \System\bin *
3.)  Unregister the Virtual Processor as a service by typing
      vip.exe -UnRegServer -N

Upon un-registering, the service will no longer exist in Windows Service's console. However, it will not be removed in the database and as such it will still show up in Designer when selecting a node (File > Open).

In order to remove the node, the entry needs to be deleted in ION_Network database in SoftwareNode table:

Note:
*
Path for older versions or direct in place upgrades could be as follows
       ...ION Enterprise\System\Bin
