Ask a Question

How to take ownership of Reports and Subscriptions created by a different user account?

Issue:
When a user account is deleted in Power Monitoring Expert (PME), the Reports and Subscriptions created by that user continue to work, however they can no longer be modified. Attempting to modify a report will result in a copy of that report instead.

Product Line:
ION Enterprise 6.0
StruxureWare Power Monitoring 7.0.x
Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.x, 8.x

Environment:
Web Reports

Cause:
Reports and Subscriptions can not be edited except by the user account that created them. When a user account is deleted, the Reports and Subscriptions that were created by that user are still tagged in the database with that user accounts unique 32 character identifier. Even if a new user account is created with the same name as the deleted user, the database identifier will be different and thus still be unable to modify the Reports and Subscriptions.

Resolution:
In order to edit the Reports and Subscriptions, they must be reassigned to a different user account within the database. The attached SQL query will reassign a Report and it's Subscriptions to a different user account.

*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

1) Open SQL Server Management Studio and open the attached .sql file.
2) Replace the 'New User Name' (leave the single quotes) with the name of the account that will take ownership.
3) Replace the 'Report Name' (leave the single quotes) with the name of the report.
4) Execute the query.

Once the query completes, the user account specified in step 2) will be able to modify the Report and any Subscriptions for that report that were created by the deleted user account.
