How do you convert a section of code written in one language to another language using Concept?

Published date: 25 July 2019

Goals and Symptoms

This resolution is intended to outline the procedure to convert a section of code written in one language to another. For this example we are converting code written in FBD (function block diagram) to ST (structured text).

Facts and Changes

The options for converting are limited. Only certain type of sections can be converted to other types.

Only FBD, LD, and SFC sections can be exported.
FBD and LD sections can be converted into ST or IL.
SFC sections can only be converted into other SFC sections.

Causes and Fixes

A sample of code written in FBD.

Go to File> Export
Choose Program: IEC text, and click OK
Select the desired section(s) that will be converted, a target language (in this example we choose ST), and click OK.

Type in a filename .txt where the exported section information will be stored, and click OK.
Open the project where the section will be imported.
Go to File> Import
Choose Program: IEC text, and click OK
Select the Import as Text radio button and any other options pertinent to your application.

Browse to the filename .txt we exported earlier, and click OK
A new section now resides in your project browser.
The code in the section preforms the same operation as the BIT_TO_WORD block in FBD only now it is written n Structured Text.
