Eclipse fucntionality: How do I change my web browser cache (caching)? Why do I want to do this?

Many web browsers come pre-configured to cache or store the web pages that you visit in order to speed future page load time. This works well for web pages that don't change much, but is problematic for site's containing lot's of data that changes frequently. The Eclipse web site contains large amounts of dynamic data-driven content. For best results, you want to set your web browser to display new content as soon as it becomes available to you.

MS Internet Explorer

    • from a menu select "Tools" for IE5+ or "View" for IE4
    • select "Internet Options"
    • click on "Delete Files" under "Temporary Internet Files"
    • in "Temporary Internet Files" section click on "Settings"
    • select "Every visit to the page" for "Check for newer versions of stored pages"
    • save the settings
    • restart your browser

Netscape Navigator
    • select "Edit" from the menu bar
    • select "Preferences"
    • from "Category" tree expand "Advanced"
    • click on "cache"
    • select radio button "Every Time" for "Document in cache is ..."
    • save the settings
    • restart your browser

Mozilla Firefox
You should not have to change your cache settings in Firefox! However, here is how:

Normally, Firefox determines the memory cache usage dynamically based on the amount of available memory. To specify a specific amount of memory cache, add the following code to your user.js file:

// Specify the amount of memory cache:
// -1 = determine dynamically (default), 0 = none, n = memory capacity in kilobytes

user_pref("browser.cache.memory.capacity", 4096);

To disable the memory cache completely, add the following code:

// Disable memory cache:
user_pref("browser.cache.memory.enable", false);
