Questions about the harmonic features of ION7300 series meters


  • Q1 - How are the Harmonic currents and Voltages obtained ?
    Q2 - Is the Harmonic current a part of the RMS current that we see under the I reading ?
    Q3 - If we were to install a Harmonic filter to capture the Harmonics would the incoming current be reduced any at all ?

    A1 - Through a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the digitized wavefrorms.
    A2 - Yes. The RMS current is a sample-by-sample RMS. So it is the RMS of all frequencies observed by the meter.
A3 - Possibly. The answer depends on the type of filter, location of meter with respect to the filter and load, and the type of load
