Can you use a GFI (Ground fault interrupt) on a 115V single phase input with a ATV11 drive?

Published date: 26 October 2018

Issue:   Can you use a GFI (Ground fault interrupt) on a 115V single phase input with a ATV11 drive?

Product Line:   ATV11

Environment:  All

Cause:   Feeding the ATV11 with GFI

Resolution:
The PWM in the drive can cause problems with the GFI, because of the capacitance to ground. It is not recommend to use a GFI with the drive.
If a GFI have to be used, then suggest installing an isolation transformer between the GFI and the drive. Also the motor needs to be properly grounded.
