Sol Meliá, S.A. is a Spanish hotel chain which was founded by Gabriel Escarrer Juliá in 1956 in Palma de Mallorca. The company is the world's largest operator of holiday resorts and the 13th biggest hotel chain worldwide. Domestically the company is the market leader in both resort and urban hotels. Currently Sol Meliá operates more than 300 hotels in 30 countries worldwide, employing over 35,000 people.

ME hotel is a new brand of Sol Melia and the hotel of Madrid was the first one to be open.
Sol Melia wanted to give to through the renovation of the hotel a complete new experience :
'In the heart of the Spanish capital, the Grand Hotel Reina Victoria is reborn as ME Madrid hotel, an experience beyond accommodation. A showcase of forward thinking, ME Madrid is destined to raise eyebrows. To blur boundaries. To tempt. To tease. And, ultimately, to transform.'
Sol Melia also needed to ensure that the renovated hotel would be efficient and provide a confortable environment to its guests.

The first phase of this project was to provide a differentiating experience in the mock-up room.
It was then followed by the public areas as well as the back of house technical areas.

The project has been managed in 2006 with an opening of the hotel in october 2006.

Key energy savings are provided in the guestroom with an automated lighting control.
When the guest enter its room with its key card, a welcome scene is automatically started.
The guest can then select its ambiance through a selected number of predefined scenes.

The solution covers the electrical distribution as well as the HVAC and lighting management.
Advanced lighting management is done in the public area through the LON bus and in the guestroom in EIB/KNX and Dali protocols.
