Pump stations refurbishing

Success Story: Oil & Gas

I. CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENT / PROJECT CONTEXT

Customer profile:

  • "Drujba" pipeline was built in the early sixties, it crosses the huge Russian territory and brings Siberian Crude oil to Europe via the former soviet republics of Belarus and Ukraine. Gomel Transneft is the main operating company for "Drujba" over the Belarussian territory.
  • A large pipeline modernisation program has been launched several years ago and Schneider Electric has been selected as main supplier for the MV/LV electrical distribution equipment and Motor Control Center (MCC). Six pumping stations have been fully modernised over the past 4 years.

Customer objective and constraints:

  • Supply the full electrical distribution equipment (Medium and Low Voltage) as well as the motor control centres to replace the existing facilities.
  • Select a world leading company able to supply high-quality packaged solutions, engineering and services, to work as a partner and to provide reliable products and technical support during the whole modernisation program.

II. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

Implementation methodology (main phases):

  • In April 2000: first refurbishment contract for the Pinsk substation, followed by the Kobrin substation in May 2000. The Turov, Mozyr, Bobovitchi and Zaschebie substations were then awarded to Schneider Electric for the quality of its offer and equipment. The competitive prices, the continuous work of Schneider Ukraine and Bielorussia, the different quality procedures and the compliance with technical requirements (SF6 breaking imposed for 6 kV overvoltage motor protection) and local standards (GOST R and BLR) meant we were able to rise above our competitors.
  • With the signature of this latest contract, Schneider Electric will have supplied all the Electrical Distribution and Control & Command equipment for the entire pipeline.
