22/06/2009Schneider Electric consolidates its leadership position in the Critical Power market in BrazilRueil-Malmaison (France), June 22, 2009 - Schneider Electric, a global leader in critical power and cooling services under the APC by Schneider Electric brand, announced today the acquisition of Microsol Tecnologia, a Brazilian manufacturer of UPSs, voltage regulators and accessories for power protection. Founded in 1982, Microsol is the No. 3 player in the field of critical power in Brazil. It has a leading position in the Northeast of Brazil, a solid presence in the retail channel complemented by strong government relationships and a proven R&D capacity for local custom design. In 2008, Microsol generated net sales of approximately BRL 65 million (~€ 24 million) and employed 500 people. With this acquisition, Schneider Electric strengthens its presence in Brazil, reinforces its leadership position in the local critical power market, and expands its product and solution development capability specifically for the Brazilian market. Laurent Vernerey, Executive-Vice President of Schneider Electric’s IT Business commented, “The combined force of the two companies brings us important synergies in terms of product offerings, geographical and channel coverage. This represents significant new business opportunities for us. We also expect to leverage the offerings across Latin America and other BRIC countries, consistent with Schneider Electric’s ambition under our One company program to become a leader in new economies.” Microsol Tecnologia will be integrated into Schneider Electric’s IT Business. This acquisition meets Schneider Electric’s Return on Capital Employed criteria.
