What are the basic steps for replacing an obsolete BPH motor with a BMH motor for use with Lexium 17 ?

Follow these basic guidelines when replacing an obsolete BPH motor with a new BMH motor for use with Lexium 17

1. Select a new BMH motor based on the required torque and speed to meet or exceed the ratings of the original BPH motor. The torque and speed ratings for all BMH motors can be found in the manual for BMH motors.   Use this link to download the manual for BMH motors. > http://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_Reference=0198441113749-EN&p_File_Id=681838818&p_File_Name=BMH_Manual_V104_EN.pdf

BMH motors do not share the same physical dimensions as BPH motors so be aware that mechanical adaptation will be required.

2. The existing motor cables that were used with the BPH motor are NOT compatible with the new BMH motor due to a change in the style of connectors used. Therefore you must also purchase a new power cable when replacing a BPH motor with a BMH motor. Attached to this knowledge article is an image file which lists the available power cables for use with BMH motors.  Select a cable length long enough to span from the drive mounting location to the motor mounting location.

3. The encoder cable connectors used with the BPH motors are also not compatible with BMH motors, therefore a new encoder cable must also be used when replacing a BPH motor with a BMH motor.  Attached to this knowledge article is an image file which lists the available encoder cables for use with BMH motors. Select a cable length long enough to span from the drive mounting location to the motor mounting location

4. The encoder feedback signal of BMH motors is also different than the encoder feedback of the BPH motor.
The BMH motor needs to be characterized for use with the LXM 17 drive. For assistance on characterization, please call Tech support

5. The replacement encoder cable wiring must also be changed at the drive side connection.
What is required is that the you cut off the factory installed RJ45 connector found on the new encoder cable and replace it with a 15 pin D-Sub type connector that is required for connecting to the Lexium 17 drive. The wiring of the encoder signal should be done in accordance with the attached wiring information file.
Note that the new BMH motor does not use temperature monitoring so you will need to make a short circuit connection at the temperature monitoring pins of the encoder connection so that the drive will function.
