Power Monitoring Expert 7.2 - Why can't I choose a COM port greater than COM32 for my direct serially connected meter?

When adding a serial device in the Management Console, the drop down list for COM ports only includes COM1 to COM32. If you need to use a COM port greater than COM32, you will need to follow the steps below:

  • 1. Create a Direct Site in Management Console and select COM32 as the "Serial Port".
    2. Open SQL Server Management Studio and go to the ION_Network database.
    3. Open the dbo.Port table:
        • For SQL Server 2005, right-click and choose "Open Table"
        • For SQL Server 2008, right-click and choose "Edit Top 200 Rows"
    4. Find the row in this table with an "Address" currently set to COM32 and change it to COM128.
    5. Open the dbo.Channel table.
    6. Find the row in this table with an "Address" currently set to COM32 and change it to COM128.
    7. Close and re-open Management Console. Your Direct Site should now have COM128 for its "Serial Port". Also, when you create a new Direct Site, you should now be able to select COM32 as the "Serial Port".
