Goals and Symptoms
System Manager Software (SMS) version 4.x Setup Utility for a SMSDL v4.0.3 system with MSDE SP3 and all 10 devices in communications took over 20 minutes to open.
Causes and Fixes
Cause: SQLAgent handle count was over 95,000. After restarting SQL services the handle count dropped to less than 200 and the Setup Utility opened up immediately.
Fix: Apply SQL 2000 MSDE SP4.
