Error in Tenant Metering Software (TMS) v 1.0.1 Meter Communications Engine: "The meter communications engine has been busy for at least 10 hours without finishing."

Goals and Symptoms

Symptoms:
New data does not show up in the Tenant Metering Software bills and the following errors show up in the Meter Communications Engine log:

  • The meter communications engine has been busy for at least 10 hours without finishing.
  • Please click "Show" on the "Meter Communications Engine" icon in the system tray for error information.
  • You must remedy the problem or there will be continued loss of data.

Causes and Fixes

The issue is caused because the Windows "Application Log" is full. The default setting overwrites events older than 7 days and the log has reached it's maximum log size before then.
To resolve the issue right click on the Application Log and select Properties.
Change the Log size to "Overwrite events as needed" and TMS will log data on the next scheduled communication.
