Goals and Symptoms
ATTENTION: Verify that the PLServiceManager Service is running after manually starting the PowerLogic Network Server Service (PLNSrvr.exe) in System Manager Software Professional Edition (SMSPE)! Data will not go into the Advanced Reports (AR) database without this service running.
There are times when the PowerLogic Network Server Service (PLNS) in SMSPE has to be manually started. When this occurs verify that the PLServiceManager service is started and running. If this service is not running then data will not be put into the Advanced Reports Database.

The PLServiceManager service is responsible for pulling data from MSMQ and putting into the Advanced Reports databases. In previously versions of SMS (pre Advanced Reports) if the PLNS was not running then restarting the PLNS service was all that was required to start data gathering in Information Manager. Since the addition of Advanced Reports the PLNS can be started but data may not be go into the AR databases if PLServiceManager is not started.
Below are some basic steps that should be followed if the event the PLNS service has stopped:
1. Start the PLNS service. (verify that the account starting the service is a valid Administrator account)
2. Verify that the PLNS service stays running.
3. Verify service for PLServiceManager start- this service is only dependent on SQL (and started with a valid Administrator account)
-If PLServiceManager is stopped the MSMQ gets backed up with data. If it is left this way for several days the customer could lose data from the MSMQ.
-If the PLServiceManager is started within a few days of stopping the data is pulled from MSMQ and the customer does not miss any data.
*PLServiceManager attempts to restart itself 10 times if it is not started, but there is no notification if it does not start.
