Goals and Symptoms
PowerLogic application software must not be running on this machine during installation. Setup will now end.
After pressing the System Manager Software (SMS) button from the launch pad and browsing to the setup.exe file for the SMS install, the install begins with Checking Services and then an error pops up that says PowerLogic application software must not be running on this machine during installation. Setup will now end.
Likely candidates that application software refers to are the PLDataSource or CommsDBP in the Processes tab of Task Manager.
Another cause of this problem is attempting to run an install from inside of the POWERLOGIC folder. When an install is run, it checks to make sure nothing is running inside of the POWERLOGIC folder. If the install file is located in that folder, it keeps itself from installing.
Facts and Changes
This error can occur in SMS version 3.3.x.x or any version of 4.x
Causes and Fixes
Likely candidates that application software refers to are the PLDataSource.exe or CommsDBP.exe, but could be any PL application in the Processes tab of Task Manager.
1. Go to the Processes tab of Task Manager and make sure the processes listed above and any other PowerLogic processes (typically start with a PL) are stopped.
2. Make sure that the install is not being run from inside of the POWERLOGIC folder. If it is, move it to another folder, the root of C, or to the desktop and execute from there.
