Using Reporter to Access System Data with a Custom Database Name

Summary


  • The default name for the ION database is ION_Data. However, some users may have changed the name of this database. This article explains the procedures necessary in order for you to view the data from this database using Reporter.


    Symptoms

    If the ION_Data database is not found when a query is added in Reporter, you are presented with the following window:



    However, after changing the Initial Catalog to match the real name of the database, the DSN for this database is not available in the Database Query Properties window.

Causes and Fixes

Cause
The registry key IONInitialCatalog is set to ION_Data when installing ION Enterprise.


Resolution

Change the registry key IONInitialCatalog:

1. Go to Start -> Run.
2. Type regedit and press ENTER.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE\Power Measurement\ION Enterprise\5.0\Databases.
4. Double-click on IONInitialCatalog.
5. Change the value data to match the name you are using for the ION database.
