Goals and Symptoms

How to create a redundant ring with an TCS ESM 043F1CU0 managed switch using fiber optic cables.

Facts and Changes

All 'TCSESMxxxxxxx ' ConneXium Managed switches.

Causes and Fixes

An example on how to setup a 'Hyper Ring Redundant Network' can be found on page 19 through 24 in
the attached user manual. The following example uses three (3) 'TCS ESM 043F1CU0' managed switches.
Ports 1 and 2 are the fiber optic ports on the switch.. All of fthe switches in the redundant ring must be a
ConneXium Managed switch.

The fiber optic cables are connected as described below.

  • The fiber optic cable from port 2 on switch 1 is connected to port 1 on switch 2.
  • The fiber optic cable from port 2 on switch 2 is connected to port 1 on switch 3.
  • The fiber optic cable from port 2 on switch 3 is connected to port 1 on switch 1.
  • The fiber optic cable has two wires (RX and TX)
  • TX from one switch must be connected to RX on the other switch.
  • RX from one switch must be connected to TX on the other switch.

i.e., Fiber optic cable from Port 2 switch 1 connected to port 1 on switch 2 would be connected
as follows.
  • TX from port 2; switch 1 is connected to RX on port 1; switch 2.
  • RX from port 2; switch 1 is connected to TX on port 1; switch 2.
