Causes and Fixes
An incorrect registry string is causing the job to fail. This can occasionally occur after a MSDE upgrade/patch.
Warning: Making incorrect changes to the registry can cause the system to become unstable. Always create a backup of the registry before making any changes.
1. Open the Windows Registry Editor (Start->Run->Regedit)
2. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\ClientSetup]
3. Verify that the path of the key SQLPATH is correct. In some instances, the "s" at the end is missing.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools
4. Re-run the SMS Archive Job
