Goals and Symptoms
When generating a Energy Cost Summary Report in Advanced Reports (AR) for a device in which custom quantities have been added in System Manager Software (SMS), AR will not allow a rate to be associated to the custom quantity.
The EDIT field is not present on the Define Charges page of the report wizard. Consequently, there is no charge of any value associated with the quantity. When pressing on the Next button, the following error is returned:
"Length cannot be less than zero. Parameter name: length"
The report cannot be completed.
Causes and Fixes
The Energy Cost Summary report only allows rates to be defined for quantities that are created with the Information Type of "Cumulative Consumption".
This issue is most commonly encountered when custom quantities are defined in SMS for third party devices that have been added into the system. By default, when adding a new custom quantity, the Information Type is set to "Unassigned". The Information Type must be set to "Cumulative Consumption" which corresponds to energy, a cumulative quantity.
Modify the Information Type field
1. Open SMS Setup Utility
2. Go to Setup > Custom Quantities...
3. Highlight the specific custom quantity in question
4. Change the Information Type field in the drop down window to "Cumulative Consumption"
5. Press the Update button and then close the Setup Custom Quantities window
6. The PowerLogic Network Server Service (PLNS) must be restarted for these changes to take affect
