CDATA elements within XML files are just long strings of characters, not actual XML data. (CDATA = Character Data). The XML Module in the VIP cannot read CDATA elements. In fact, it can only read numeric elements, like <guid> in the example.
To properly read the info that's in the CDATA section, it would have to be first transformed into actual XML elements, i.e. with an XSL stylesheet.
