Goals and Symptoms
The purpose of this resolution is to inform the user of specifications of the fiber optic cables specified by Schneider Electric for its Motion Control Solution.
Causes and Fixes
The fiber optic cables that are used with the Quantum SERCOS Motion Controllers and associated SERCOS compatible Cyberline and Lexium drives are SMA plastic cables. They are equipped with FSMA type connectors on either end. IEC 1491 SERCOS specification states that either glass or plastic fiber optic cables may be used. Schneider fiber optic cable is 1mm plastic fiber and has an attenuation of 220 dB/km. The cables have been fully qualified with the Schneider Motion control System. Schneider does not offer these fiber optic cables as the product range is obsolete.
Schneider makes no recommendations on the use of repeaters and none have been qualified with Schneider's motion control system.
