What can cause "Error 1104h: Resource unavailable. All available driver instances are already in use." when connecting to an Advantys STB NIM via the serial cable ?

Goals and Symptoms

Using Advantys Configuration software to connect online to an Advantys STB Network interface module (NIM) via the MB programming port causes an error. The Advantys configuration software (ACS) will utilize the Modbus driver, which will be installed during installation of ACS, if one does not exist as part of any Schneider Electric programming software already installed.

Causes and Fixes

This error would typically indicate one of two things, either the MB driver is conflicting with another vendors driver or that the MB driver is not running at all. Therefore, do the following to start the driver:
Go to Start > Programs > Schneider Electric > Communication Drivers > MODBUS Driver. Now an icon should appear in the system tray showing that the MB driver is running.
