Using a project from the ProWORX 32 Server.

Goals and Symptoms

The purpose of this resolution is to show an example on how the user can get and work with a
project from the 'ProWORX 32' server.

Causes and Fixes

The following procedure can be used to get a project from the 'ProWORX 32' server and
work with it locally on the 'ProWORX 32' client PC..

  • Start 'ProWORX 32' on the client PC.
  • Click on 'Server\Login'.
  • Enter a username and password to log into the 'ProWORX 32 Server'
  • Click on the 'Login' button.

 
  • Click on the 'Server' tab in the bottom of the 'Navigation' window.
  • Right click on the Project name in the 'Server' tab.
  • Select 'Get from Server with Lock' to retreive the project from the server.



Note: When the project is retrieved from the server:
1.) The server status will show a red check mark next to the project name in the 'Server' tab to
indicat that it is locked.

2. The hostname of the PC and username that it is locked by, is also shown next tot he
project name.

3.) A copy of the project is created in the 'C:\ProWORX\32\Projects' folder. The project name is
shown the 'My Projects' tab.


4.) If the project already exists in the 'C:\ProWORX\32\Projects' folder, a message will appear
asking to overwrite.



5.) The 'My Project tab' it will show the same lock status for the project.

6.) If a user on another 'ProWORX 32' client PC tries to get the locked project while it is locked out,
they will get a 'File already locked' message.



7.) If a user on another 'ProWORX 32' client PC logs into the server, they will see that the
project has been locked out by another user.

8.) If a user on another 'ProWORX 32' client PC tries to put another version of the same project
to the server whileit is locked out, they will get a 'File already locked' message..



To work with the project:
  • Double click on the project name in the 'My Projects' tab to open it.
  • Make any changes to the project using either 'Offline' or 'Online mode, if necessary.
  • To make changes to the project in the 'Online' mode, it will need to be connected to the PLC.



Note: If there is a Modbus Plus adapter on the client PC, it is recommended that the project be
connected to the PLC using the local Modbus Plus adapter rather than through the
'ProWORX 32 Server's Modbus Plus adapter.

To connect the project to the PLC using the local Modbus Plus adapter:
  • Double click on the 'Communications' tab under the project name to open the 'Communications
Setup' window.
  • Specify the Modbus Plus address and adapter number in the 'Communications Setup' window.
  • Change the 'Timeout' value from the default value to a different value (i.e., 10 seconds), if necessary.
  • Uncheck the 'Use server to communicate' checkbox.
  • Click on the OK button.
  • Save the changes



To Transfer the project to the PLC:
  • Right click on the project name and select 'Online Commands\Write\Write All'.




To work with the project in Online' mode:
  • Right click on the project name and select 'Project state\Online'.
  • Make any necessary changes.
  • Save the changes to the 'Offline' project.
  • Put the project back to the server and unlock it.


To save the 'Online' changes to the 'Offline' project:
  • Right click on the project name and selecting 'Online Commands\Read\Read'..
  • Click on the 'Read' button in the 'Read from Controller' window.
  • Save the changes.
  • Put the project back to the server and unlock it.

To put the project to the server and unlock it:
  • Right click on the project name and select 'Put to Server'.
  • Type in a comment to describe the changes made, if necessary.
  • Click on the 'OK' button.
  • When the the 'Put to Server' function is complete, the server will automatically unlock the project.
