Causes and Fixes

Due to some changes in the way that Microsoft Office 2003 handles DBF files, any added new references
to exported documentation database does not get saved after they are added in Excel. This is an Excel
related problem and has nothing to do with ProWORX NxT. The following workaround can be used to
resolve this problem.

  • Open the Documentation Editor
  • Insert a period (.) in the Descriptor for the references that you want to add descriptors to.
  • Close the Documentation Editor window.


  • Click on File\Utilities\Import/Export



  • Click on the radio button labeld 'Export'


  • Click on 'DB4 Database .DBF File'
  • Assign a name for the exported file
  • Click on the 'Start' button.


  • Locate the exported database and right-click on the name for it.
  • Select 'Open With'
  • Choose Excel from the list to open it..


  • Locate the row that contains the register address that you want to add descriptors to,


  • Replace the period (.) with the descriptor that you want to use.
  • Save the cahnges
  • Click on the 'Yes' button to respond to the following pop up window.



Note:..... If you view the DBF file in Notepad, it will show the added descriptors.


  • Close Excel
  • Click on the 'No' button to respond to the following pop up window.


  • Backup the ProWORX NxT project.
  • Click on File\Utilities\Import/Export
  • Import the saved file back into the ProWORX NxT project.
  • Click on the down arrow next to 'File_Type' in the Import/Export Utilities' window.
  • Select 'DB4 Database"' from the drop down list.


  • Specify a filename.
  • Click on the 'Overlay Imported Descriptors' button.
  • Click on the 'Start' button.


  • Close the 'ProWORX NxT' project and re-open it. (This critcial step must be performed in
order to see the new changes.)
  • Open the Documentation Editor
  • Type in the reference number and you will see the changes.
