Ask a Question

Why does my ConneXium switch support 4,000 MAC Addresses when there are only 7 ports to connect devices?

Because your ConneXium switch may interconnect to other switches through an uplink port and therefore be part of a LAN subnet on which there could theoretically be thousands of other devices on that subnet. Uplink ports commonly have dozens, even hundreds of MAC addresses assigned to a single uplink port. This way, the switch knows that to reach devices on other switches, it must forward the message out through that uplink port.
